HK Covid cases at just over 14,000

Hong Kong on Monday reported a slight drop in new coronavirus cases to 14,068, with health officials saying the Omicron outbreak is stabilising.

It is the fifth day in a row the daily caseload has fallen, and the third straight day it’s below 20,000.

Health authorities said in the past day, 4,523 infections were confirmed by PCR tests in laboratories, while 9,545 people reported positive results via rapid tests.

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) reported no new outbreaks at care homes.

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan of the CHP said one of the reasons was that many residents had already been infected while others had been vaccinated.

The Hospital Authority said 179 Covid patients died over the past day. In addition, there were 44 deaths earlier that have now been included in the official tally.

A total of 5,906 patients have died and 1,049,127 people have been confirmed with Covid in the Omicron outbreak.
