MOSCOW / VLADIVOSTOK – The legal regime of the counter-terrorist operation against the Wagner private military group has been canceled in Moscow and the Moscow region due to the normalization of the current situation, the Russian government said on Monday.

"Due to the absence of threats to life, health, property and other legally protected interests of people, the head of the counter-terrorist operation, the head of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the city of Moscow and the Moscow region decided to cancel the counter-terrorist operation legal regime in Moscow and the Moscow region from 09:00 am local time (1200 GMT) on Monday," Russia's National Anti-terrorism Committee said in a statement.

The temporary restrictions in Moscow and the Moscow region have also been lifted, the committee said, adding that the situation in the Moscow region remains stable.

Russia's National Anti-terrorism Committee introduced the counter-terrorist operation regime on Saturday to prevent possible terrorist acts after the Wagner private military group was accused of trying to organize an armed rebellion.

The Kremlin eventually reached a compromise with Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner forces, through the mediation of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko late on Saturday.

Also on Monday, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited a command post in the special operation zone, Russia's defense ministry said.

This was his first public appearance since the failed mutiny by Wagner forces.

The ministry released a video showing Shoigu flying in a plane and then attending a meeting with military officers at a military headquarters in the special operation zone.

The minister reportedly listened to reports from Colonel General Yevgeny Nikiforov, the troops' commander, about the current situation on the frontlines.

Meanwhile, a criminal case on the incitement to an armed rebellion against Prigozhin is not terminated, Sputnik reported.

"A criminal case against Prigozhin is not closed," the Russian news agency said, citing a source in Russian Prosecutor General's Office.
