Two pet cats test positive for Covid

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) on Friday said two pet cats had tested positive for Covid.

The two cats belong to a group of five domestic short-hairs from Sheung Shui. When their owner was found to be a close contact of a confirmed Covid case, all five were sent to the AFCD for quarantine and testing.

So far the infected cats haven’t shown any symptoms but they’re still being monitored.

A department spokesman said pet owners should wash their hands, both before and after being around animals or their food. It also said people should avoiding kissing them.

He said anyone who is ill should restrict contact with animals and, if a pet’s health condition changed, a vet should be contacted.
