‘Tiger-like spirit takes HK to new era of prosperity’

Chief Executive Carrie Lam says Hong Kong is “set to usher in a brighter future” in the Year of the Tiger, following a year of success in maintaining the city’s stability.

In a minute-long video released on Monday, the CE expressed confidence in the year ahead.

“The tiger is a symbol of quick response, great bravery and strong vitality. These attributes vividly describe the spirit of Hong Kong people, who always make the best of their opportunities and rise to the challenges that come their way,” Lam said.

“Such a spirit will not only help us get through the epidemic, but will also take Hong Kong into a new era of prosperity, as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the Motherland.”

Delivering her speech wearing a pink floral Chinese dress, Lam also spoke of achievements during the Year of the Ox – including fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, boosting the economy and enhancing people’s livelihoods.

None of this would have been possible without the support of the central government and the whole community, Lam said.

“I wish all Hong Kong citizens a healthy, harmonious and auspicious Year of the Tiger,” she added.
