Sham Shui Po block, TST hotel put under lockdown

The government on Wednesday evening put a residential block in Sham Po and a hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui under lockdown, in what it described as “precautionary” measures.

Residents of Block A of Tung Lo Court on Tai Po Road and guests of the Luxe Manor on Kimberley Road are required to stay in the buildings and undergo testing.

Authorities say they plan to finish the operation at around 7am tomorrow.

Health officials had, earlier on Wednesday, said a 43-year-old construction worker living in Sham Shui Po had tested preliminary positive for the coronavirus – a case that could end the city’s nearly 60-day streak of no local infections.

The government said even though this is highly likely to be a “re-positive” case, they decided to issue the compulsory testing order for the building he lives in as a precaution.

The Centre for Health Protection had said people who had been to other places the man visited, including some restaurants in Kwai Fong, Shek Kip Mip and Wan Chai, will have to be tested.

The construction sites he worked at also had to be closed temporarily.

Separately, officials also said they had sent a 13-year-old girl and her family in to quarantine, as the girl was a close contact of a Covid-19 patient in Macau who came down with the Delta variant.

Officials said the girl and the Macau patient went on a dancing trip in Xi’an together last month. The girl returned to Hong Kong on Monday and stayed in the Luxe Manor. The girl’s Covid tests so far have come back negative.

The government said the hotel would be locked down for testing, to ensure hotel guests there have not been infected.

The government also issued compulsory testing notices for 22 locations. They include two construction sites in Wan Chai, a Fairwood restaurant in Shek Kip Mei and another in Wan Chai, a Wellcome supermarket on Nathan Road in Jordan, and Immigration Tower.

The Immigration Department later said it would suspend visa operations on the seventh floor of the tower on Thursday, while disinfection takes place. Services will resume on Friday.
