Police probe suspected manslaughter-suicide in Tai Po

Police said they’re investigating a suspected manslaughter and suicide case in Tai Po early on Sunday in which a 31-year-old man and his 62-year-old mother died.

They said that at about 3.40am, they were told of a fire in a unit on On Po Lane.

They said the 31-year-old man was also found on the podium of a building on On Po Lane with serious head injuries.

He was certified dead at the scene.

When firefighters entered the unit to put out the fire, they found a a 62-year-old woman in the bedroom with serious hand injuries.

She was taken to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and was certified dead at 4.48am.

They said an initial investigation indicated that the man had set fire to the unit before attempting suicide.
