‘Nearly all allergy sufferers can be jabbed’: expert

A medical expert on Thursday said a study has found that 98 percent of people suffering from allergies who had attended clinics to screen for Covid jabs are fit to be vaccinated.

Dr Philip Li, a clinical assistant professor at the University of Hong Kong’s Department of Medicine, led a research team which analysed data from eight public clinics and a private one set up to assess if people with allergies can get Covid-19 vaccines.

Li said the allergy clinics saw over 10,000 people in the past year and noted both the Sinovac and BioNTech jabs are safe.

“I want to reassure the public that there is really no [need to] fear these jabs, even if you had very severe allergies in the past,” Li said.

He said since the study has proven that the vaccines are safe for those with allergies, it has been easier for people to get jabbed because there is a clearer picture of who can receive the vaccine.

“For those who have still not had their Covid vaccinations, you should not fear…it really is very, very safe,” Li added.
