MTR, bus operators cut services further amid Covid

MTR services will be reduced and many bus routes will be suspended from Friday as the pandemic hits public transport.

The MTR Corporation said it will cut services on eight lines because a shortage of staff and a sharp drop in patronage.

Weekday peak and non-peak services of East Rail, Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, Island, South Island, Tseung Kwan O, Tung Chung and Tuen Ma lines, as well as East Rail services on weekends and public holidays, will be affected.

The MTR said the waiting time for most passengers will be about 1 to 4 minutes longer.

Meanwhile, the Transport Department said it’s approved a request from bus companies to suspend 98 routes, along with one overnight and five holiday routes, until March 16.

A majority of the affected routes are run by KMB.
