Man believes he’s infected after alleged Covid calls

A man accused of encouraging people to spread Covid has missed a court appearance, after prosecutors said he suspected he might have been infected.

Chung Chi-chiu was due in Eastern Court on Monday.

The 32-year-old electrical appliance repairer has been charged with two counts of inciting others to expose other persons to the risk of infection, and one count of inciting others with intent to cause bodily harm.

The court heard that he allegedly wrote in an online discussion forum on January 23 and February 7, urging people to spread the coronavirus.

Chung was also accused of using the same platform to call for violence against judges last May.

He has been remanded in custody, with the case adjourned to February 22.
