Betty Yung, chairperson of the Hong Kong Employers of Domestic Helpers Association, was commenting after the government redeployed for other anti-epidemic purposes two hotels that were set aside for helpers.
On Thursday labour officials explained that this is because Courtyard by Marriott in Sha Tin and the Rambler Garden Hotel in Tsing Yi will be “redeployed for other anti-epidemic use”, without elaborating further.
Yung told Janice Wong that even though employers could now choose from any of the 44 designated quarantine hotels, it may be difficult to find budget options.
“I have asked the agency … the arrangement is not easy because they have changed to 44 hotels and they have more choice and also some are cheaper and some are very expensive, so it depends on the employers whether financially can support them to allow the girls to stay there.”
