Andrew Kan named national security department head

An assistant police commissioner, Andrew Kan, has been promoted to head the force’s national security department.

Kan joined the police in 1991 as an inspector and rose through the ranks.

He was the number two official in the national security department before he was promoted to fill the vacant post.

Kan’s predecessor, Frederic Choi, has been moved to the post of director of personnel and training after he was caught visiting an unlicensed massage parlour last year. A subsequent probe concluded that Choi had not engaged in any unethical or illegal behaviour.
